About Me

It was in 1984, inspired by fellow Welshman Steve Jones breaking the marathon world record, that I started running with a group of friends. Initially undertaking a 2-mile run each morning before school.

Less than a year later I joined my first running club and that was it. I met some fantastic people that happened to be fantastic runners too. Regional, National, and International level runners were always at hand to offer help and advice that I still refer to today.

Over the following years I became quite competitive myself, achieving sub 16 minutes over 5k and sub 33 minutes over 10k, racing regularly on the road and cross country, and even managed to pick up the odd trophy here and there. Unfortunately, my participation in the sport was cut short after 15 years through injury. Rather than walk away, I wanted to help others to seek out knowledge and help them achieve their running potential.

My coaching philosophy is heavily influenced by what I learnt from some of the great coaches of years gone by. Since then, I have gained official qualifications in endurance coaching, including at an advanced level. I have also gained qualifications in mindset and mental skills coaching to prepare the runners I work with to be the best they can be.

Prompted by my own injury and to further enhance the value I am able to provide to runners, I undertook formal training to gain a recognised qualification in sports massage. Continuing to develop in this area I subsequently gained further advanced qualifications in sports massage and other sports therapy modalities.

The secret to achieving your best as a runner, is consistency. Unless you can put together sustained training periods uninterrupted by niggles and injuries, you'll always be performing sub-optimally. The coaching and advice I provide, underpinned by years of experience, helps keeps injuries at bay and maintain the consistency required.

Elite athletes have benefited from coaching and sports massage for many years. Recreational and club athletes are now beginning to realise that they too can benefit from a structured approach to their training. Simply put, good coaching and physical maintenance improves performance.
